Orientation
The Signal Sigma Desktop Interface is divided into 2 sections: Instruments and Activities. Think of our Instruments as ingredients, while Activities are recipes (things that you can do with those Instruments).
Instruments are laid out across the top of the platform and are designed to accomplish a single part of your research process.
Activities are displayed on the left side of the app and constitute common workflows - things you are most likely looking to do with our platform.
For example, Analyzing a Security is an Activity that might entail the usage of the following Instruments:
Fundamental Explorer
Peer Finder
Valuation Wizard
Technical Analysis (Single Instrument)
Within the Activity itself, the whole process is explained in detail. As you get accustomed to our platform, you are more likely to use the Instruments directly.
However, Activities are here to help you get started.
Clicking on “Dashboard” or the Signal Sigma Logo will take you to our Homepage from anywhere in the app. “Your Account” shows the Research Spaces you are currently signed up to.
If you have any active Custom Strategies, this is where you will be able to access them from.
Our Process in Brief
The 5-minute guide to our Investing Method
We take a step-by-step, top-down approach to building a portfolio. Most of our long-term performance is derived from allocation to Equities as an asset class, so naturally the research process is focused there.
Asset Class Allocation
We recognize the existence of 5 major asset classes that offer an investor diversification and little historical cross-correlation of returns. These are:
Equities
Treasuries
Precious Metals
Commodities
Cash
The first step in our process is to determine how much of our portfolio should be allocated to each.
2. Specific Factor Selection
Once we have a general idea of how our asset class allocation looks like, it’s time to dig deeper into various Sectors or Factors for each.
Specific Equities: Tech, Growth, Utilities or Small Caps;
Specific Treasuries: Long Term, Inflation Protected or Corporate;
Specific Precious Metals: Gold, Silver or even Miners;
Specific Commodities: Oil, Nat Gas, Wheat;
Cash is always the base account currency.
3. Individual Stock Selection
For the Equities side of our portfolio, this stage involves Screening for new ideas, doing Technical and Fundamental research on our shortlist and settling on a list of positions that we are interested in trading in (or out) from.
Market Outlook
The quick way to tell if we’re buying or selling in this market
You’re in a hurry. You’ve got other things to do. You just want to know if we’re buying or selling the most recent market move. Here’s where to look to get an answer fast.
Read the latest Weekly Preview Article. It’s where we lay out our short-term projection. As the name implies, this article is published on a weekly basis, on the first day of trading for the week.
The Today section on the Homepage may also contain important information regarding short-term developments.
Together, these two frequent publications indicate our thoughts on the overall direction of the market.
Model Portfolios
An overview of our automated strategies and the real-life Sigma Portfolio

The Market Sentiment Instrument is your best friend when it comes to gauging whether the market is Overbought or Oversold. Keeping your emotions in check is of paramount importance - that’s why we feature this instrument on the Homepage. It’s unlikely you’ll ever see us sell in Extreme Fear or buy in Extreme Greed.
Check the Sigma Portfolio - it’s where we show you what we’re doing in real life with our own capital.
Sure, our models may be trading in and out of certain positions, but that doesn’t mean we follow our strategies blindly.
If we’re trading today (or planning to do so in the very near future), you’ll see our Trade Alert pop up here, along with the relevant orders.
5. Trading
Finally, we account for every stage of our research so far and size our positions accordingly.
It is then only a matter of time for a signal to flash and we can execute with supreme confidence.
We also include Live Trade Alerts for the Sigma Portfolio, so that you can always stay on top of our latest moves in real-time.
The full version of our Investing Process is available here and includes more detailed explanations for each step, as well as videos. Our Portfolio Rebalance Article, published every Tuesday also follows the same steps as outlined above.

The Market Outlook Tab (on the Homepage) defines two medium term scenarios (1-year ahead) that we have constructed during the latest quarter.
These always consist of a Base Case Scenario (with higher implied odds of realization) and an Alternate Scenario (with lower odds of happening).
The percentages refer to SPY’s potential move to our defined price targets since it’s last close. The outlook is recalculated on a quarterly basis.
4. The Market Environment
Getting a read on the Market Environment will help us tremendously during the next step. We aim to answer a couple of key questions:
Are we in a Trending Market or in a Mean-Reverting one?
Is the market breadth supportive of a diversified portfolio or a concentrated one?
Do transaction volumes signal the current “move” is just starting or are we near the end?
Where are we in the Economic Cycle according to aggregate fundamentals?
Millennium Smart-Beta Portfolios
Millennium is the generic name associated with 4 Smart-Beta stock portfolios, mostly allocated to equity risk at all times. These portfolios offer 7% - 18% annual returns, very high risk (2.6% daily VAR, -50% drawdown) and use various selection criteria to derive their decision making. More info is available on each of the model’s portfolio page.
Sigma Portfolio
The Sigma Portfolio is a Medium Risk model that closely tracks our real-life investments. It is meant to be an example of real-life trading using all of the instruments available on the platform. Sometimes we will front-run our models, and other times we’ll delay certain decisions. Longer term, our goal for this portfolio is to converge on the average of all automated models, and even outperform them.
Customize our Process to fit your investing needs
We make it easy to order a custom-made Investing Process.
We can start building by modifying one of our existing models or start from scratch according to your needs. This process is NOT automated and involves a little back and forth between our team and yourself in order to reach the best results.
Once the Strategy is activated, you can find it as a new Research Space in “Your Account”.

We love our mobile phones just like anybody else! However, their small and narrow screens are not ideal for doing serious stock market research. We’ve tried to bring as much of the functionality of the Desktop experience on Mobile, but certain features just don’t work as they should. That being said, here’s the lay of the land, on your Mobile device:
